May 4, 2019 - The Sims 4 challenges: Here is a list of some inventive & energizing. For an official post-Apocalypse extension pack (think The Sims + Fallout),. I'm debating the rules of a possible challenge based on the Fallout games - You were born in the Vault. You'll die in the Vault. One of your sims is the overseer - They are responsible for keeping your vault genetic diversity high enough so sims can woohoo (i.e. Not woohooing with family) These are the rules I have so far, any more ideas would be greatly recieved.
(I've been aching to do another challenge so here you go.)Story: Something similar to Fallout 4's except your not frozen for a long time.Rules:. You can use cheats if you want. (Not for needs for the Sim). You can't bring any other sims into the household until day 5 (Sim days) ((And if you do it has to be the opposite gender of the sim you made and a young adult with a kid of any gender. You can do this by typing in the cheat: cas.fulleditmode, and clicking a mirror and going into create a sim then add those 2 sims.). Your sim CANNOT get a job or leave the bunker. The bunker has to be a basement. You can either teleport your sim into it or have them go down stairs and delete the stairs. The Sim:How Many: 1Traits: Loner and 2 of your choiceClothing (everyday, formal, active, etc): Try to make it look the same or make the clothing the same. (Like maybe remove shoes from sleepwear and if you want give your sim some simple swimwear)Gender: Either of your choice.Age: Young AdultExample. The Vault Dweller ChallengeThe Vault Dweller ChallengeThis challenge was most definitely inspired by the Fallout series by Bethesda/Black Isle/Interplay. I do not own any of their Intellectual Property, I am merely an addicted simmer with both a love for RPGs and a love for The Sims (if you can’t tell). If Fallout is a game you think you would be interested in, definitely check it out. It is incredible. If this challenge is present elsewhere, please let me know. I am not intentionally stealing anything. This was a challenge I devised when I watched Bethesda’s press conference and needed something to tide me over until Fallout 4’s release date. I have now decided to add this to the Sims challenge forum. Since I know there will be some simmers who are not familiar with Fallout’s lore, I will give a breakdown. If you would like to skip this because you already know the story, just know that this challenge will start pre-war; jump to the GAMEPLAY section.BACKGROUNDImagine America never moved out of the aesthetic of the 1950s after World War II. There is an obsession with atomic energy and a fear of atomic warfare (like if the Cold War never ended). It’s basically the fifties’ nuclear family mixed with fifties’ science fiction. The year in which our challenge begins is 2077. On October 23rd of this year, the world’s long-time war turned nuclear when the countries involved in something called the “Resource Wars” (research it if you want to, it’s difficult to explain) began attacking each other with atom bombs. The two-hour exchange turned the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland practically devoid of natural life. Before, however, a company called Vault-Tec created giant fallout shelters that could house numerous (eligible) families/people for centuries. They were far underground where radiation couldn’t touch the inhabitants, yet they could have gardens, schools, water purifiers, generators, you name it that could potentially keep the communities inside going for eternity. Did Vault-Tec actually make the vaults for these purposes? Of course not. 9/10 times they were controlled environments for demented, unethical social experiments. If you would like to research what happened in some of the game’s vaults, feel free. If you would like to mimic some of these vaults, go ahead. However, the vault I will be designing for this challenge will be one of the series’ self-sustaining vaults (Vault 101 or Vault 81) where the intent was for people to actually live inside the vaults for long periods of time. Where the challenge will end will be two hundred years after the Great War, the time in which the three most recent games take place; eight generations into the future. I’ll go over more game info in the challenge rules, gameplay, and such.GAMEPLAYGoal: Get a child in generation 8 to young adulthood. What you will need before you start playing:1.The Sims 3: I highly recommend using the Sims 3 as it has more mod support, expansions, custom content, and building freedom.2.Expansion Packs: You need Supernatural for indoor gardening and zombies. Seasons, World Adventures, and Ambitions can be for aesthetic purposes like weather, a rock blocking your vault entrance, and robots. University would also be great if you want to clone sims for an interesting cloning vault, but it would sort of break the rules of this particular challenge.3.Mods: Okay, these mods are super important for it to be as close to Fallout as possible:a. Rabbit-hole mod so you can have a school, a grocery, a clinic, a diner, and jobs in your vault.b. Mods that allow more than 8 sims per household (Nraas has these)c. Nraas’ master controller (basically testingcheats on steroids)4.Custom Content for aesthetic purposes. What you will need to do next: Edit Town1.Choose a neighborhood. Delete everything, including the sims. If you want to make it more like the game and have families from the neighborhood as your vault dwellers, feel free. However, it will be easier to make a new one.2.Save this neighborhood in its own file since you’ll probably want a blank neighborhood later.3.Vaults in the Fallout universe are typically on the outskirts of town. Place a lot/choose a lot on the outskirts of town. I recommend it be 64x64, but it can be any size you wish.4.If you have Supernatural, make the moon phase always on full moon so you have zombies every night. People who couldn’t make it into vaults got turned into radiation-addled Ghouls, a lot of them being feral like zombies.5.If you have Seasons, make it one season all year round for extreme post-apocalyptic weather. (Weather was only just added into Fallout 4, but it would be really cool.)6.For more aesthetics, add some families of vampires and make them look like zombies. Give them ripped clothing. These can be your Ghoul families who aren’t “mindless-zombies” as Three-Dog would say. The radiation made Ghouls essentially immortal. Make their lots look as makeshift as possible. For your vault family: Create-A-Sim1.Create four heterosexual couples. This is not because I prefer heteronormativity, it is for reproduction purposes. Star wars galaxy of heroes cheats hackers university. However, if you have a mod that allows homosexual couples to have babies, then go right ahead 2.Give them a uniform. Vault-Tec gave its dwellers blue jumpsuits, but you can use whatever.3.They can look however you want them to, but if you want it to match the universe, give them a 1950s vibe.4.Give them personalities you want or ones that will match the specific jobs needed in the vault (I’ll go over these in more detail):a.Doctor/Psychiatristb.Security Guardc.Botanist/Herbalist/Gardenerd.Mechanic/Inventore.Cook/Bartenderf.Teacherg.Overseer/Officiant for Weddingsh.Scientist/Inventor5.One of them HAS to be an overseer. These were the designated leaders of the vaults.6.If you want to add pets, feel free. However, lore-wise, I don’t see how Vault-Tec would allow them. For the vault: Build Mode1.Build a chain-link fence around your lot. Give it a gate.2.If you have World Adventures, you can really get creative here. It wasn’t easy to get in to a lot of vaults, if you catch my meaning. In fact, in Fallout 4, one has to have a Pip-Boy (which would translate to a key in The Sims 3) to get in. Make sure your main door is locked for everyone.3.The vault HAS to be underground, including the main entrance. Feel free to make the stuff before the entrance look however you want.4.The vault needs to have these rooms (this is where the rabbit-holes come in to make the rooms actually serve their function). Other than their rabbit-hole, put objects in them that actually make them look like what they are. Some will serve functions not associated with a rabbit-hole (i.e. Inventing):a.Bedroomsb.Communal bathroomsc.Greenhouse (actual plants + grocery rabbit-hole)d.Diner (diner rabbit-hole)e.Overseer’s Office (city hall rabbit-hole)f.Jail (law-enforcement rabbit-hole)g.Clinic (hospital)h.Chapel for weddings (or religious purposes)i.School/Libraryj.Science building/inventor’s roomk.Game/entertainment rooml.Bar (if you want. I don’t remember seeing any of these in-game, but it might be fun)For the vault: Buy ModeHonestly, if you have not played the game, it’s too hard to try and explain what everything looks like, so just make it look like what would happen if the fifties went into a high-tech fallout shelter. Or do whatever. Get creative For the vault: Live ModeAssign everyone to their designated careers. When they aren’t working, let them chill. Assign a curfew to make it extra institutionalized. Overall, let them live out their lives and have fun.RULES1.Overseer: You get to decide what happens with the overseer. They are the leader of the vault (and work in the Politics career track). This means they can be president or dictator, whichever you choose. Your overseer makes the rules which means you can add extra fun or cruel rules that your sims have to follow. You also get to choose how and when they are elected. There is one vault in Fallout: New Vegas where the overseers serve a two-year term that ends in them sacrificing themselves to the vault (because if they don’t the vault will kill everyone inside). The people of this vault elected their overseer, but since there isn’t an election process in The Sims, you could make it random. Or you could make it genetic. It’s up to you!2.NOBODY can leave the vault except under two circumstances: (1) The next generation will involve inbreeding and you have to leave to find new mates. Or (2) you have reached generation Eight (“200 years” later) and it is now mostly safe to leave the vault. With option (1) there are extra stipulations:.Go to edit town and add human families (other vaults have exited in other areas and started repopulating). You can’t reproduce with Ghouls2.Consequence for Option 1: In order to bring people back from the wasteland, you have to send searchers out. However, for each pair of searching sims, you can only bring back one sim from the wasteland. So if you need three people, you have to send out six sims. On top of that, you MUST leave 50% of your search party behind in the wastes (either they die, run away, or get lost) after you find the people you need. So if you need three people, you send out six vault dwellers, but the only people who can come back are the three people and three vault dwellers. This will happen every time you leave the vault until you reach generation Eight when it is mostly safe to leave the vault.3.Only YA and A ages can go out into the wasteland.4.If you reach Generation Eight without leaving the vault, place human families in the neighborhood like you would with Option (1).5.Once the vault is opened in Generation Eight, you can interact with the wasteland and sims may go about their lives however you see fit. They can live in the wasteland, reproduce freely (except with Ghouls because they can’t reproduce), move out of the vault, whatever.6. UPDATE: I have been doing this challenge and decided to create another vault and switched to that household. I wanted to switch back and forth between the two. However, when I came back to the first one, all of the dwellers were outside of the vault, having a juice party with the ghouls. I highly recommend you stay with the same household since this really breaks one of the main points of the challenge. I'll try to find a way to keep the dwellers inside if you want to switch households. Please comment any questions and let me know how things are going! I'll be trying out this challenge for the first time as well, so I look forward to the fun! Happy simming, everyone! YES YES YES I'M A HUGE FALLOUT FAN THIS IS. YES.Into The Future could be very useful for this! The first reason that comes to mind is this vault door, which heavily resembles the ones from the games; But it also adds the ability to create robots, opening up possibilities of securitrons and other types of machines. There's also a trick to making a plumbot look like a human sim, which means you could make synths! ITF also features a lot of very retrofuturistic type of things, that could contribute to the atmosphere, and some technology that I could see in post-war America.Dude, I'm totally doing this. Sims Challenges Sims 3Bless you.I never purchased ITF but that sounds awesome! That will definitely be one of my next video game purchases! Thank you so much for the input! Your writing skills are very fluent. If you plan on converting this challenge on some sort of story telling blog i would gladly read it.Props on the challenge nicely done!Thank you all so much for the support! I was actually going to stream this/record it and post it, but I have also thought about adding it to my blog. Currently, I'm just running test challenges to find problems, etc. If you see in the challenge rules, I added that sims will sometimes be outside of vaults if you switch households and return later. I'm thinking deleting doors and putting them back later on (when you want to open the vault) will fix that.
